The sky looked committed to something, so we went out before it made up its mind. The air had that metallic smell it gets just before rain, and the neighbourhood had gone unusually quiet.
Nothing happened. That was mostly the point. A few wet leaves, an empty schoolyard, and a dog taking a very long time to inspect a telephone pole.
We made it home just as the first drops hit the windows. A successful expedition by any reasonable standard.
